This’ll either be brilliant or painful beyond belief, I think. But at least he’ll have a better chance of getting the accent right.

Well, personally, I want him to get the accent right right. James Doohan’s attempt is one of the things I find perpetually cringe-worthy about the original Star Trek. Not, perhaps, as cringe-worthy as William Shatner’s… inappropriate… pauses, but cringe-worthy enough.
Could be a lot worse.
