Go on, say hello.

I’m off to Cheltenham next week for the Screenwriters’ Festival. You can find my thoughts on previous years by checking out this handy-dandy magic blogspot tag thing.

Executive summary: it’s excellent, and well worth the money. You can still get tickets from the festival website.

If you’re going to be coming along too and it’s your first time at the festival, you might be a little nervous about meeting people, especially if you’re going on your own.

Fortunately, we have a solution.

The lovely and talented Michelle Lipton, Jason Arnopp, Phill Barron, and myself will be holding our now-traditional go-on-say-hello-what’s-the-worst-that-can-happen networking do on the Sunday night.

By which I mean:

We’ll be down the pub, and we’d love for you to join us.

You’ll be able to find us in the bar of the Queen’s Hotel on the evening of Sunday 25th October from about six o’clock onwards.

It’ll be a chance to put names to faces and get to know people before everything kicks off in earnest on the Monday.

Hope to see you there!

  1. I didn’t think you were going this year, Piers! I’m so glad you are! All else being equal I should be in the bar some time Sunday evening so I’ll see you then….

  2. …what’s-the-worst-that-can-happen?

There’s road-works down the way, they could crack through the sewer pipe, allowing the alligators to finally escape; famished, they stalk Regency Cheltenham picking off unwary screenwriters at random before an intrepid group of writers engage in a life or death struggle, finally retiring victorious to the Pub only to find they’ve run out of Strongbow… I mean, a world without cider… how much worse could it get?

  3. Sorry, Piers, can’t be there Sunday but will be there Monday/Tuesday and hope to share some of your legendary hospitality in a more salubrious setting than the Travelodge.

  4. And the Twelve Point meet up is at 7pm followed by the SWF “official” meet-‘n-greet at 8pm at Queens Hotel bar, too.

If that’s correct, it looks like Sunday night is well planned out!

  5. Hmmm. Looks like Piers has more things on his mind than his blog… maybe he’s getting ready to go somewhere? I wonder where that could be?

And here’s the shameless plug… I’m using the Festival to start posting in the blog I started ages ago. But no one knows it’s there! Piers was one of only three people ever to comment on my one and only post, so it seemed appropriate to announce it to the Scribosphere at large here. And here ’tis:

    As for me… Cheltenham ho!
