Putting on one of my plays

Occasionally I get contacted by an amateur dramatics company or school about performing one of my plays. (To be honest, it’s usually A Christmas Carol. It’s not a seasonal staple for nothing, you know…)

Previously I’ve always dealt with this on a case-by-case basis, but I’ve streamlined the process because, let’s face it, we’ve both got better things to do. 😀

As this is strictly for non-professional and non-exclusive productions (someone might also be putting on the play in the theatre down the road – it’s not likely, but it’s not something that I’ll be checking before issuing the licence) then we can make the process nice and simple.

I’ve based it on the way that Stephen Briggs‘ stage adaptations of Terry Pratchett’s books published by Corgi/OUP are licenced: Basically you cross-reference the size of the theatre with the average price of a ticket, look it up on a table, and that’s the licencing fee per night of the performance, so it should be affordable regardless of the size of your production.

As soon as you’ve received the licence you can start rehearsals. Nice and simple, with no fuss for either of us. Enquiries about professional or exclusive productions should be made directly to me by email.

More details can be found on the licencing page.
